Every earth day there are a whole bunch of social media posts from people saying how important the earth is we only get one. Which is great that fact is recognized, however, the reality of these posts isn't so great. So many people make posts like this and then continue to live large carbon footprint lives. People spend a day saying how important the earth is and then commenting on the weather a few times a year and then forgetting about it. Our pr oblem is not only awareness- but action. We all need to get off our screens, stop posting quotes from a philanthropist about the environment, and start making changes to our daily lives that will make a difference. If all of us who are "aware" would spend 5 minutes off of our phones and 5 minutes sorting out recycling a huge difference would be made. Our culture has a tendency to promote a hashtag but not to do anything inconvenient. Please please please take this message and do something about it.  Do something that will p...

It's officially time for Summer Sexism! So I was minding my own business studying in Starbucks STUDYING, then I notice this guy in his mid-twenties staring at me while he was waiting for his drink. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt and think he wasn't looking at my body (wearing a tank top and shorts) and just looking for a seat. I turn away and try to ignore it. Then he comes and sits next to me and scoots his chair really close. So this is a long table with lots of  open seating at the moment. He chooses to sit right next to me and move his chair so close to me that our elbows are almost touching. I couldn't even read a sentence out of my text book because I was so freaked out and and disgusted. Then I left the Starbucks all together. Sure, I was could have packed up all of my pencils, pens, notebook, text book and study guide into my back pack and then move to the other side of the room. The thing is though, I shouldn't have to accommodate myself to him. I sh...

Summer sexism two: Was walking down the street when some big construction workers started ogling me. One said "hey baby wanna take a walk with me?" I lied and said I was a minor and told him to shut up. He then started saying loudly and rudely to move a long since I was a minor. I yelled at him and called him disgusting and that he shouldn't treat women that way. His friends laughed and the boy (not man regardless of his age) put his fingers in his ears saying he couldn't hea r me. I got angrier and he told me his friends were laughing because I was still talking. It was so demeaning to be treated like a sexual object and then mocked for reacting negatively. I know many people will say I should have ignored it, but I refuse to be treated like that. I wish I had maybe said something a bit more creative than "disgusting" but I was mad, scared and provoked. I know they said it mainly because I'm wearing shorts and a tank top but it's 86 degrees! Why sho...

My personal belief is that the NRA is corrupt, hypocritical, and apathetic. No matter if you have positive opinions on this company (keep in mind they're FOR PROFIT) I honestly think you're disgusting for approving of their new ad. Providing every American with a gun is not the only way to "save" America. I'm sorry to anyone I love who believes that this ad is fine- but I'm ashamed to know you. And if you believe that the horrible things this woman (really multi billion compa ny paying her to talk since she has a darker complexion so "diversity") says, I'm not afraid to say that to your face. I am perfectly aware that there are responsible gun owners and I respect them, and I know we are probably never going to get rid of guns. But I cannot begin to convey how just down right evil this ad is. This feels like the prequel to a cliche dystopian trilogy.

People were dying in Puerto Rico (which is United States territory) last weekend, U.S. citizens in local towns don't have access to clean water, a nuclear threat, but our president spent the entire weekend tweeting about sports- and is being supported for that. What about literally the rest of the world right now?

Okay but watching people who have been so stubborn about gun control pivot the conversation from a white, middle aged man, multimillionaire, with no criminal record who owned 42 guns and killed 59 people, back to the NFL because he doesn't fit the standard profile is tragically entertaining.  This is what pro-gun control people have been saying! No one fits a "profile" by providing less options to get these guns and with stricter supervision we will at least be working towards a solution.  We aren't trying to take away rights, we're trying to save lives.  This is real. This is happening. Every time I hear about these I get more and more personally scared for my own life, which is valid. It shouldn't be in our country where we are "so proud" of our military and innovations, but it is.

The message the GOP is basically sending is that sex doesn't have a part in the workplace, so birth control should not be mandatory under employer health plans.  Here's the thing- I didn't get on birth control for the purpose of safe sex, I wasn't sexually active when I got on it. I made a whole post about it way back in June.  I got on birth control because my cycle was causing me to be faint, throw up, miss school, and have extreme pain. I missed school and other obligation s because of something I cannot help just like MANY other women.  There is already the gender pay gap, so women missing work for something that can easily be avoided is just adding to an underrated economic crisis. Not to mention tampons, pads, liners and other women's hygiene products are not FREE. You can go to the health teacher and get free condoms like candy, but things that are related to women's health is off the table. I once saw a pack of 20 tampons for $13. For some cont...

The Alt-Right uses the word "snowflake a lot" but they're the ones getting so offended that people different from them have rights. They are triggered enough by race to conduct inaccurate studies, spread hate speech, and even commit murder. Whose the real "Snowflake", Alt Right? Cause it seems to be that you just can't handle anything different than you and you'll throw a collective adult tantrum in retaliation.  We've been through this, we know history. Don't turn around the Haulcuast, especially while there are still survivors to prove you wrong. Don't mock countries making effort to educate and provide medical care to all of their citizens to deflect injustice. Don't scream words that were used to shot fear into families.  When has this worked out for you? When has the white race had it harder than others? When will you communicate and trust instead of fear-mongering and violence? When will you be reasonable? You can't be rea...
